Million Dollar Spaghetti

Million Dollar Spaghetti is my family's FAVORITE meal, so I thought I would share it with all of you!!
Ingredients
1 lb. of Ground Beef
1 can of Spaghetti Sauce
8 oz of Cream Cheese
1/4 cup of Sour Cream
1/2 lb. of Cottage Cheese
Whole Stick of Butter
8 oz. of Noodles
Bag of Sharp Chedder Cheese

First: Go ahead and put your over on 350! Boil those noodles!! While they are boiling go ahead and mix up the cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese!!
Make sure that it is mixed up VERY well!
Then.. go ahead and cook that meat!

Make sure its good and brown and drain it!
Then pour your spaghetti sauce over it!

Take a few slices of your butter and put them in the bottom of your casserole dish,
Then layer HALF of the noodles in the bottom of the dish!
Pour that nicely mixed up creamy mixture on top of the noodles.
and SPREAAAAAD it all over!
Then add the rest of your noodles and put a few slices of butter on top of those noodles.
Now pour the red sauce and meat on top!
and once again SPREEAAAAD
Now place that awesome casserole in your oven for 30 minutes!
After those 30 minutes take the dish out and pour some chedder cheese on the top and put it back in the oven for 15 minutes!
Then your DONE!
Now I'm awful and didn't take a finished project picture, SORRY!
But the amazing taste will make up for it:)

  6. Found your blog on Pinterest. Made the Million Dollar Spaghetti last night....AMAZING....eating left overs for lunch today. The only thing I did differently, was when I drained the water off the noodles - I tossed them in italian dressing. Fantastic recipe!

  7. I just made the Million Dollar Spaghetti for dinner for my husband and I, and it was very delicious!! I was a little skeptical about the cottage cheese, but it was love at first taste! I didn't have any spaghetti, so used whole grain wheat fettucine noodles instead. I can't wait to try it using the spaghetti noodles next time. I'm putting this in my recipe box right now!!

    2. butter makes the sauce flavor sit longer on your tongue!

    3. Butter has no nutrients that your body needs. Lol it just tastes good!! I'm sure you can use less than a whole stick and jt would be fine. Or a butter substitute

  17. Yum! I'm gonna make this tonight and throw in some meatballs on top! My husband swears he doesn't like "canned" spaghetti sauce - but this may change his mind!!!

  18. I made this tonight for a small dinner party and it was a big hit! In regards to the butter question above, I somehow let my fridge run out of butter & only had a little less than half a stick left. I sprayed the dish with Pam, and split the butter between the layers. I can't compare it to what it would've been like if I had used a whole stick, but it was delicious regardless!

  32. I made this for dinner last night and it was great ! I tried to healthy it up a bit by using 1/2 the amount of butter lean ground beef ,veggie noodles, fat free cottage cheese, fat free spur cream and reduced fat cream cheese .I also only used about 2/3 the bag of cheddar on top ,which I felt was plenty . One other slight change that I made was to add garlic power and Italian seasoning to the sour cream/cottage cheese mixture to add a tad more flavor . This recipe is defiantly a keeper :-)

  39. This was such a hit for three generations at the supper table. Granddad, Grandmom, aunt, dad, girl and baby ate it with unbridled abandon.

For others who might be afraid of that much butter:
I lined my pan with parchment paper & misted olive oil instead of that much butter (I bake with it enough in cookies & cakes!) I also added one egg into the cheese mix to add a little body like lasagna layers.

  40. Do you think this dish will freeze well? I am thinking of adding this dish to my once a month cooking menu. I want to just prep, freeze, then thaw and put in the oven just before meal time.

  73. this recipe was pretty good except the fact that I used the pasta sauce shown (Ragu Traditional) when it is not my normal pasta sauce. It brought the whole recipe down, as it is a very bland "blah" pasta sauce. To others who are considering making this" be sure to use your FAVE pasta sauce. Other than that, it was pretty good. I give it an 86 out of 100 (with 100 being the best). I am sure it will be better next time when I use a different sauce and spruce it up a little. Thanks for a good base recipe to start from though! Pretty good!

  80. Yummy! Like others, I was a cheese snob and turned my nose up at the cheddar and used mozzarella instead. Here's what I'd change next time. More sauce, and added garlic to the sauce. I may even go crazy and use the cheddar. Thanks for a yummy and simple dinner!

  83. Made this for dinner tonight and it was absolutely delicious!!! The cream cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese mixture makes the dish!!

  84. Planning next week's menu right now and this is definitely going on the menu. Taking others suggestions I am gonna cut down on some of the fat by using fat free or reduced fat items and I think I'll only use half a stick of butter instead. I'm gonna add diced tomatoes, bell peppers, onions and garlic to the meat to bump up the veggies and flavor. Also planning to serve with a green salad!! Can't wait to serve this to my family :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. I make something very similar to this, and it is so yummy. The only difference is that I use cream cheese mixed with cream of mushroom soup and then I sprinkle the top with cheese. I prefer it over regular spaghetti any day, but unfortunately my husband does not and neither of my girls like spaghetti. I look forward to trying out your version soon :)

    1. Actually it is quite a large dish and can feed way more than 8 people. I worked out all the details and it came out to be around 435 calories per reasonable portion. So you're way off.

  88. To the above anon concerned about caloric content.

    1) Why are you viewing recipes about pasta with cheese if you are concerned about calories? Not too bright to do that.

    2) Your math is wrong. And what brand/type of product people pick up will make quite a difference in the end result of caloric content here.

    2. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, you don't have to be rude about it. It might taste great, but you would have to modify a lot of the original recipe to make it even slightly healthy.

Personally, I can make pasta with cheese that doesn't contain a full day's worth of calories in one serve. It's not hard. :) having said that, food like this is delicious in small doses and I can't wait to give it a try this week!

  90. I just fixed this. I couldn't bring myself to add all that butter, so I just sliced up 1 Tbsp to the middle layer and it tasted fine. I used low fat sour cream, but next time I will try low fat everything. Also, 8 oz. of noodles is pretty sparse for this much sauce. Next time I'll bump it up to 12 oz. My kids really liked it. It's so rich that I feel a little funny in my stomach, lol, but it was good ;) P.S. I used my favorite sauce, Prego fresh mushroom.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Those who are afraid of the cottage cheese, I throw mine in the blender so my kids don't even know, just don't understand why all the butter, more noodles would be better.

  98. Made this tonight for dinner and it was delicious! I did make some changes to reduce the fat/calorie count- I used ground chicken instead of beef, fat free cream cheese, fat free cottage cheese, and fat free sour cream (although, I'd have preferred to use FF Greek yogurt, I had the sour cream on hand), high fiber pasta, and reduced fat shredded cheese. I cut out the butter completely and used an olive oil mist instead and reduced the shredded cheese to 1 cup. It was still fabulous!
Next time I make it I'd like to add some sautéed veggies (mushrooms, peppers, onion, garlic) to the sauce/meat.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Just made this and it was good. I added seasoning to the cheese mixture as well as subbing out cottage cheese for Ricotta cheese. In the sauce, I added sliced mushrooms, zucchini, diced onions, garlic, and ground turkey. For the topping, I did half with the sharp cheddar and half with a mixture of parm and mozarella.

We now have a new favorite dish to add to our favorites!

  115. I made this today! I did make some substitutions. I used plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream, mainly because my husband wouldn't touch anything with sour cream in it. He doesn't care for cream cheese, so I used less of that than called for. I did use low fat everything and whole wheat noodles as well. I didn't have cheddar so I used a 6 cheese Italian blend. It was great. Kind of reminded me of lasagna.

  124. I am making this tonight for the second time now ;) just wanted to say my family loved it & thanks for sharing the recipe. :))

  125. I made this again tonight for dinner and it was a hit. It is so easy to make also! This time I added some mild Italian sausage. Great recipe and one that I will be making regularly for my family!

  126. This is the most amazing spaghetti I've ever had! I made it last night for my whole family and they all loved it! This is definitely a keeper in my recipe book!:-)

  127. I made this with spaghetti squash and ricotta instead of the cottage cheese. I used low fat sour cream and cream cheese, and added in some spices in the cheese mixture. Then I divided it into small, wide mouth jars and baked it. From there, I can serve as many as I need and toss the rest in the freezer. I haven't had one reheated yet, but pasta dishes typically freeze well for me.

  128. I am sure this is delicious but do you honestly need a stick of butter in this... I calculated out the nutrition for this and it is unreal. If you made this for 6 people it would equal out to this:

    Calories: 862
    Carbs: 49
    Fat: 56
    Protein: 29
    Fiber: 5
    Sodium: 1364

  129. sooooo yummy! saw this once, thought i pinned but didnt...found it again, tried it and was so worth the search :) thanks so much for sharing!!

  130. 8 oz of noodles seems off. No company sells an 8 oz container of dried spaghetti. Should it be 12 oz or 16 oz? Even the pic in this post shows a 12 oz container... ???

  131. I found this recipe on Pinterest and made it tonight for my family. The only adjustment I made was using three cheese pasta sauce instead of spaghetti sauce (because it's the only kind I had in the pantry!) It was delicious! My 2 year old liked it too!

  132. I made this to taste good. I used "real" everything and did not skimp. Great stuff...if you actually let yourself enjoy things, that is.

  133. I made this exactly by the recipe even though I was tempted to put more noodles and less butter. The sauce I used was Bertolli Marinara with Burgundy Wine. It came out great. I wouldn't change a thing. It was very rich and delicious.

I also made a second one omitting the meat. I did put less butter in that one. Next time, I'll add a bit more noodles or maybe some veggies to make up for the absence of meat. It was a little too cheesy (if that's possible) but very delicious.

  137. I did the math for those who have asked. I used the exact same brands as the blogger, except for the cheese which I didn't see specified. The total caloric count is 4,736. Total fat count is 295. :)

  138. We call this Spaghetti Pie. I chop up the cooked spaghetti and toss in bowl with small amount lite butter and 1/2 cup parmesan cheese. Also layer turkey pepperoni on top. My kids have loved this for years. When my son was home on leave from Iraq that is the one dish he had me make for him. I always made it with angel hair spaghetti. It freezes very well. Our boy was killed in action 2 months after his leave. I couldn't make spaghetti pie for a few years. Then my daughter asked for it. It was bitter sweet making it again. Now I find good memories associated with spaghetti pie.

  139. This recipe has so much fat! I'm sure it is good but the calorie count and saturated fat makes this a very unhealthy recipe.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Just so everyone knows, FAT-FREE AND LOW-FAT items are NOT healthy choices for replacements in this meal. They are full of chemicals to replace the fat. Regular sour cream is milk and enzyme, turn over a tub of low-fat sour cream and read! :)

  141. I've done something similar with ricotta cheese, but I need to try this with the butter!

  146. I may have just missed this info along the way but does this amount go in a 8x8 or a 9x13 pan?

    Going to make it tonight!

    1. I used a 9x13 because thats what it looks like she used in the pictures and that sized worked well.

  148. Made this tonight and was not impressed like everyone else... I mean, it was ok I just may not ever make it again without really doctoring it up. Maybe onions, green peppers, garlic in the sauce and a little salt. It was bland to me.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I made this tonight. It was FABULOUS. I added garlic and onion when I was browning the meat. I will definitely make this again.

  150. I am surprised at the amount of positive feedback on this recipe. I do cook from scratch all the time, I followed the recipe without any changes. I was so disappointed with this dish! Way too much sauce and overly rich, and not enough noodles. Sorry to be a downer, but I got caught up in all the fantastic reviews.I just do not understand how this is a winner :'( Sorry.

    1. I have to agree, only I thought it was SUPER bland lol. I'd eat it before I starved, but not until then.

  151. I made this tonight for my two kids. They LOVED it. I used light cream cheese and sour cream and 1% cottage cheese. I added garlic powder and a bit of salt to the cheese mixture. I didn't use any butter at all but I tossed the pasta in a bit of olive oil. I only used a marinara sauce (no meat) and topped with a combo if mozzarella and cheddar. I did use 3/4 of a box of spaghetti and this left me with leftovers for a while but the kids are happy about that :) super easy and yummy! Even the lightened up version!! Thanks!

  152. Made in lasagna form to fool my husband from a "new" recipe, he loved it! Had two servings and asked me to save it as leftovers, he NEVER eats leftovers, so I thank you very much!!:)

  153. My husband Hates Spaghetti, did I mention he Hates it!! I made this before he came home, when he seen it on his plate he refused to eat it, I asked him to try it , just like we ask our kids to try it. So he did, he ate 2 plates full and has asked me to make it again.

  154. This recipe does look rich and delish. Just a note to the blogger though, if you cut down on your exclamation points, when you do use them you will have more impact.

  155. Made this for my community group tonight and it was a hit! Yay!!

    ReplyDelete
  156. This was absolutely delicious! I made it for my family tonight! I've got to say I am impressed! I have my famous spaghetti sauce (takes all day to cook and is really time consuming) and I have never liked any form of spaghetti since I've made this sauce!!! This will def be added to our monthly meals! Something quick and easy - especially compared to my sauce that I like to make!

  157. I noticed the first time I made it, it needed a lot more noodles. And I absolutely hate cottage cheese but I went ahead and used it and I was so surprised! It was so good and I have really picky eaters. Making it again right now but this time I'm using Ricotta to change it up. We love this recipe and it has made it into our weekly menu and that hardly ever happens!

  158. Just here to give an honest review; not complain. I was really excited to make this and invited the family over to eat it with us. I was incredibly disappointed when I put the first bite into my mouth. :( I followed the recipe to a "t" but did use my favorite sauce as so many other reviewers suggested. When I saw that some people thought it was too rich, I was actually excited, as I LOVE rich foods. This was bland and boring. My spaghetti will definitely be on our plates the next time; I won't be making this again. We're still eating the massive amount left over after 5 people ate it for dinner last night because we feel badly wasting that much food. I'm glad so many people love it, but it was a no-go for us.

  159. I made this tonight and it was FANTASTIC. I added onions and garlic to the meat along with the White Linen Collection marinara sauce found at Costco. I also swapped the sharp chedder cheese for mozarella. My picky kids ate this with no complaints (what's not to love when you have tons of cheese in the recipe). A great staple to make for guests staying over.

  160. The recipe both look and sound delicious!

  161. I so love this recipe! This is my go-to recipe when company is coming over. Super easy and super yummy. I did a few substitutions (just used my favorite sauce, added ricotta, greek yogurt instead of sour cream, 2% cottage cheese, and less fat cream cheese) plus I added more noodles, my dish is almost overflowing but it turns out perfect every time! Thank you so much for this, I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  162. I think the butter could be left out...and I would for sure use fat free cheese, greek yogurt and cream cheese...you know, to avoid a heart attack...with all of that being said, I do plan to try the recipe...the lighter version anyways!

  163. My 3 and 5 yr olds LOVE this receipe--I used a whole box of angel hair last time I made it and put italian spices in the cottage cheese/cream cheese mix and made 2 layers--I think the angel hair worked better--for anyone complaining of not enough noodles or dry--BUT either way this is a keeper for are little family--Thanks for sharing!

  164. Used Italian Sausage instead of ground beef and ricotta instead of cottage cheese with the addition of chopped garlic to the cheese spread. Nice recipe. It went over well and it something fun that I will use for family gatherings. After it sets a minute, you can cut it like lasgna.

    Cheers!

  166. Wow! This is so good! I was hesitant, but definitely use the sharp cheddar. Next time I will add a layer of chopped spinach to make myself feel better about a veggie.
Thank you for such a great recipe!!

  167. I have made this 3 times since pinning! The only thing i changed is that i use two jars of spaghetti sauce. It is delicious. Actually, its even better as leftovers the next day!!!! Yummy!!!!!

  172. Found this on Pinerest - made it today and my family thoroughly enjoyed it! I added pepperoni to the top. I will def be adding the recipe to my rotation. I'm not big on spaghetti noodles (though it did not stop me from eating 2 servings of it), I wonder if you could use spiral noodles in this recipe? Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  173. I made this dish tonight and everyone loved it, including my picky eaters! I followed the recipe just as printed, however next time I would add more noodles. Thank you so much for the recipe, will definitely be making this again!

  174. I made this and used country sausage instead of hamburger for added flavor. It was very tasty but I would recommend making more meat sauce and adding another layer after the cheese mixture....it needed more sauce.
